Ten days after coming home from her last chemotherapy treatments, Jamie finally appears to be feeling a little better. She’s still feeling pretty icky, but her demeanor is so much better. Up until now she’s had a difficult time dealing with nausea, extreme fatigue, mouth sores, and what she describes as “pain all over”.
During her office visit this past Wednesday, the doctor determined her potassium levels were very low and ordered she receive a potassium iv. When she came home she was like a different person. She was talkative, smiling, and ate a light dinner of real food (as opposed to just strawberry Jello). She received more potassium today and may receive more tomorrow depending on her blood work in the morning.
Next week she’s having a bone biopsy to determine whether she’s in remission. It’s not a pleasant procedure and she’s pretty anxious about it. If she is in remission, they want us to quickly move forward with getting the marrow transplant process started at the Moffitt Center in Tampa. Her doctor has requested we make an appointment now for sometime in the next few of weeks with the Tampa team for the initial consultation.
It can be very overwhelming as we starting thinking ahead to that portion of her treatment, but we continue to take things day by day.
