My hemoglobin is back up thanks to yesterday’s blood transfusion. In fact, it’s higher than when I entered the hospital. What’s odd is that my white blood cells are also up from .49 to 1.05. That’s really not supposed to happen yet. It might be because of the transfusion or because of the steriods I was given yesterday. OR I may be recovering faster than expected. I’m trying not to think about it too much, so I won’t get too disappointed. Tomorrow’s blood test will give us a better picture of what’s happening. The doctor thinks I’m going to go back down (especially because I get my 3rd dose of metatrexate (sp?) tomorrow) but I could surprise everyone – I know that’s been Joel’s prayer since the beginning. We’ll just have to wait and see. Maybe it will be a great birthday for me. Yup, I turn 33 tomorrow in the hospital… bummer. It’s okay, but the worst part I think is the food. Usually I get to go out for my birthday, a treat, but this year I can’t eat take out. I can eat home cooked food that follows the rules, but no take out. Plus, it’s not like I’m home, so it’s the cafeteria food for me and I’m really starting to get sick of it. Some of the food is just so gross looking that it wouldn’t matter if I did lose my appetite. I actually dreamed of outside food last night – McDonald’s fries, a good steak, sour cream on a baked potato, Chili’s quesadilla and Texas cheese fries, and this is funny – Michael’s chicken (Andi’s husband). Hey, the BBQ sauce was really good!

My mouth feels sore today but no actual sores yet. It seems like it’s inevitable. I wish it wasn’t. I can’t help remembering how bad I was in the past and I really don’t want to go back there, but then I keep telling myself that it’s all temporary. I think I’m going to try to think and pray like Joel that I’ll defy the odds. I’m basically told the average for everyone, but that does mean that someone did better than expected (and I won’t think about those who did worse).
