You can imagine how surprised and thrilled I was today when I checked facebook and saw Jamie had updated her status with this message:
“Jamie Quevedo Is finally starting to get better.”
It was litteraly the high point of my day, no… my week!
Jamie was talking a little today and I was actually able to speak with her briefly this evening over the phone. Her mouth and throat are still sore, but the pain is subsiding and she’s was feeling noticeably better today. Her voice sounded hoarse, but that’s to be expected given the sores and being silent for nearly 5 days..
The donors stem cells are beginning to kick in and her counts are on the rise. I don’t recall the exact numbers, but I believe her white blood cells were at .60. They had been giving her oxygen in the evening when her red blood cell counts were low, but those are now heading up as well so the oxygen has been discontinued.
Her lungs are also doing well and she hasn’t had any more fevers!
The best news of all? They are looking at a possible release from the hospital this weekend or early next week. This all depends on her being able to eat and hold down food, but they expect her to be able to do so in the next few days. Once out of the hospital, she’ll be moving into a nearby apartment for a couple of months. She’ll still have a ways to go for recovery, but she’ll be able to do so in a more comfortable environment.
Please pray that she’ll continue on this trend of fast recovery without problems. Pray for complete healing of her mouth and throat sores. With her new immune system building up, we also need to pray that it does not attack her body as it gets stronger. The next few months will be critical for this which is the reason she needs to stay close to the hopsital for monitoring.
Thanks so much for your constant thoughts and prayers!
