Today is my last day before being admitted into the hospital. We had to spend pretty much the whole day at Moffitt for appointments. The day started poorly with a call telling us that the surgery scheduled for today could be canceled. Let me backtrack a little. When mom and I were driving to Tampa yesterday, there was a call from Moffitt; they needed me to come in for a stool test that the insurance company was requiring. So, (not to be overly gross) I managed to go on demand yesterday only to receive a call this morning stating that the sample was missing. Talk about a bad morning. Luckily, after we arrived at Moffitt and were called back for labs, we discovered that the samples were found! This is just a couple of lines, but it was at least an hour of stress for me. Today, I had blood taken, an EKG, surgery, a chest x-ray, and visits with a nurse and PA (patient’s assistant). The surgery went well. I’m really sore now, but it will subside in probably a day or two. I had to have my one lumen hickman removed and then have one with three lumens installed. Here’s something funny – the three lumens are color coordinated and the colors are a patriotic red, white, and blue. I have ice on it right  now because it’s pretty achy. The guy who did it was really nice and seemed incredibly knowledgeable. What is annoying is that he said my original was definitely done by someone who does install them often and he didn’t do that great of a job. I have a lovely scar from a cut he said was too large and he told me that the excuse that my vein was too small to put in the triple lumen is false and an excuse often used by those who don’t know what they’re doing. It’s annoying because I had to have this surgery since the first one wasn’t done properly. Oh well. At least it’s over. Tomorrow, I get admitted to the hospital and that evening I start my conditioning chemo. Pray for me. I have faith that all will go well. Plus, it looks like we’re on track with the donor, which – of course – is great.
