Welcome to the Q Family Blog! The Q Family was “officially” founded in 1997 with nothing more than a couple of bucks scrounged up from the car and free soap and deodorant provided by the county clerk of the court. Spoiled by the sunny climate and hesitant to move away from friends and family, the Q family has made South Florida their home.

Jamie

Jamie is a thirty something, Pennsylvania native who has lived in Florida so long that she has been assimilated. By day, she’s a mild mannered English teacher in a public high school molding resistant minds. By night, and on holidays and weekends, Jamie enjoys watching television and movies, reading, organizing anything, and collecting autographs with Joel. She holds a BA in English from Florida Atlantic University, is a National Board Certified Teacher, and possesses endorsements in gifted education and ESOL education.

Joel

Joel is a thirty something, South Florida native, and multiple hurricane survivor, who spends his days working in the fascinating Information Security field. He holds a BBA in Management Information Systems from Florida Atlantic University as well as several industry recognized computer network and security certifications. On his free time, Joel enjoys spending time with family, reading magazine and Internet articles, tinkering on various projects, watching movies, listening to music, and collecting autographs with Jamie.

Jacob (AKA Jake)

Jake is presently four years old and very handsome. While Mommy and Daddy are working, Jake attends preschool learning the basics and playing with his friends. When at home, Jake enjoys watching television, playing with Mommy and Daddy, and looking for trouble.

Joshua (AKA Josh)

Josh is the newest addition to our family. He’s literally a born fighter and a miracle from God. His favorite activities so far involve sleeping, peeing, eating, pooping, and passing gas.

Tigger

Tigger Bob joined the family at 6 weeks old when adopted by Jamie and Joel in 1998 from a local private shelter. His original name at the shelter was “Bob”, after a volunteer that was taking care of him. We decided a more “cat” name was in order and named him “Tigger” after the striped Disney character. The name “Bob” was promoted to his middle name. Although affectionate, his lap time is generally cut short due to his excessive weight. He enjoys eating, sleeping, and hissing at the vacuum. His favorite place to sleep is on Joel’s office chair. Garfield is his hero.

Oslo

Oslo, aka Os, is an 8 month old male cat adopted from our local shelter in November 2008. He was left in the shelter’s night drop box and drew us to him with his very cool brown eyes and a very soft coat. He appears to be an orange version of Whiskers and we suspect he is of a similar breed mix. Oslo was named after the capital of Norway, a name fitting since we believe he has some Norwegian Forest Cat in him. So far, he enjoys rubbing his entire body on our faces and sleeping on our heads.

Gone, but not forgotten…

Whiskers 8/15/95 – 7/17/09

Whiskers was a Norwegian Forest Cat and was 6 months old when adopted by Jamie and Joel in 1996 from the county animal shelter. She was extremely affectionate and enjoyed lap time with Jamie and Joel. Her favorite place to sleep was the hot, dark, and dirty garage. Whiskers was named after the very prominent long white whiskers on her face. She peacefully passed away on July 17, 2009, just shy of her 14th birthday.
